What Does a Ceremonialist Do?

A ceremonialist is responsible for performing one or more of the four ceremonies that an OA member may go through: Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Vigil. However, at the Chapter level, we are only responsible for the first three. In each ceremony, a ceremonialist not only learns the lines and blocking of the ceremony, but also the reasoning behind each word, and each piece of regalia,  so that they may truly deliver an amazing performance. It may not seem like it when you go through the ceremony for your first time, but everything in the ceremony has meaning! By becoming a ceremonialist, you learn so much more about the Order!

Instead of doing service like normal at Fall Reunion or Spring Conclave, the ceremonialists work to prepare the ceremony sites for the evening’s ceremonies. Each ceremony team also holds practices in preparation for these events. A ceremony team forms a special bond that is found nowhere else in Scouting. It is a truly special opportunity!

Ceremony Teams

There are four principles, or ceremonialists, on each ceremony team.

Allowat Sakima is the mighty chief, Meteu is the medicine man, Nutiket is the guard, and Kitchkinet is the Guide.

To be a member of a Pre-Ordeal or Ordeal team, you must be at least an Ordeal member. To be a member of a Brotherhood team, you must be at least a Brotherhood member. If you would like to join a ceremonialist team, please fill out this form, and we’ll be in touch with you.
